Lake Shastina Fire Department has a live-in program for those interested in making the fire department their home-and for those interested in responding first to every type of emergency.
Sleepers live at the station for free and respond to anything dispatched in Lake Shastina and surrounding districts. They drive the engines, perform station maintenance, have full access to training and equipment, and take part in building community through public events.
A lot of the Lake Shastina community recognize and know our sleepers by first name, and the firsthand experience gained is perfect for those interested in the Siskiyous fire academy and/or a career in fire.
Sleepers also get priority on strike team assignments during the summer, which give firefighters a chance to fight fire across the state of California with the potential to earn upwards of $20,000 in a season.
